The student is required to have a permit before starting Phase 2-In-Car. Phase 2 is composed of 7 hours behind-the-wheel training and 7 hours of observation.

Also, the State requires the parent to practice and record an additional 30 hours with student. The more practice the student receives at home, the quicker the student will progress.

During each driving session, the student will be rated on his/her progress. The rating is on a scale of 1-4 with 4 being the target score. With each session, the instructor will use the previous scores and instructor comments to determine what driving techniques the student needs to work on and the route for the day. On the 3rd and 5th driving time, if the student is not progressing at the rate we feel is appropriate, we will give the student an evaluation form to take home to the parent. The evaluation form will explain what driving techniques need to be practiced at home. By the final drive time, the student should have progressed from neighborhoods, rural and multi-lane roads and finally the highway.

The student must have a valid permit in his/her possession always, and glasses or contact lens when required, during the behind-the-wheel instruction.

The student will schedule the drive times on www.schedule2drive.com . All drive times will be done at our location.

Once Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the course has been successfully completed, the student will receive a D964 certificate.

When a student is 16 years of age and has held a valid for 6 months the student is eligible to take the Texas Drivers Skills Test at Street Smart or the DPS.

Students 18-24 years of age are eligible to take the Skills Test immediately upon successful completion of both phases of the program.
